The Spirit of St Andrews Foundation
A non-profit building community-centric, accessible and sustainable golf facilities in all corners of the globe.
Our Mission
Golf was founded as a sport for everyone—regardless of age, class or wealth. The true spirit of St Andrews extends far beyond the architecture of The Old Course; it is the heart of a game that supports wellbeing, nurtures communities, creates economic opportunities and connects people with nature.
Yet as golf grows globally, most new facilities serve only the few. Our mission is to link golf—and the opportunities it generates—with communities who have traditionally been excluded from the game, providing access, employment and joy.
Our Principles
Sport
Golf is fun, inclusive and suitable for all skill levels, ages and genders. Bringing the sport to new communities is central to our purpose.
Economic Growth
This is not simply a mission to get new people into golf. This is a mission to raise the standard of living using golf as a catalyst for economic growth.
We vow to pay fair wages which allow our staff to improve their quality of life and the lives of those around them. Through each stage of development we want to employ, train and support locals wherever possible. We plan to use local artisans to craft club merchandise, and local produce to feed guests. We want to explore every opportunity to showcase local professionals and funnel tourism toward local businesses.
Community
We believe in creating a genuine sense of place. Our facilities will reflect the culture, traditions and aesthetics of their region and offer tourists the chance to engage meaningfully with local communities and customs. Through local projects and cultural activities, the golf facility becomes a hub—not just a course.
Environment
We want our facilities to positively impact the local environment. Wherever possible, we should act as stewards to the land and promote healthy environmental practices. This starts with the golf course, but extends throughout the operation and beyond, including supporting sustainable practices within the wider community.
Inspiration & Impact
This project will succeed not only because our core mission is noble, but because what we are doing is engaging. Golfers crave stories and adventure, and we have an opportunity to showcase golf at its best. We want to document and share the positive impact golf can bring to communities worldwide; inspiring golfers, clubs and organisations to rethink how the sport can serve society. We want to show a model of golf that enriches people and places, not excludes them.
Mission
We intend to partner closely with local communities, NGOs, government bodies and environmental experts to ensure every project benefits the region socially, economically and ecologically. Each facility will be designed to be accessible, sustainable and aligned with long-term community ownership and pride. We are focused on regions where access to golf is limited and where new facilities can create meaningful community uplift. We do not build in highly developed golf markets.
